Lots to do!

I didn't really get a whole lot accomplished this weekend.  Just managed to finish a piece of embroidery.

So, this week I get to play catch-up!

Have three small quilts to quilt and bind, one to bind, a doll blanket to baste, back and bind and a twin-size quilt to quilt and bind.  I should get all of the quilting done on the small things tomorrow.

I should...

But, here's the kicker... I really need to clean my house and do my laundry.  Maybe if I can get all my cleaning done before noon I can get to the sewing... or maybe I should just wait to clean until the kids get home.  I'm not sure... I guess I will see how I feel in the morning.

Had a tennis match today and won it with my bestie, Angie.  A couple of years ago we had a saying, "I don't play tennis, I erode the human soul."  That's what we did today.  We today kicked butt and had fun doing it.

Well, I am heading to the shower and then off to bed... until next time (hopefully posting pics of completed quilts)...

Missing In Action

Sorry, I have been MIA the last two weeks.

In my last post I was definitely PMS'ing and besides the "normal" things that go along with it, the muscles in my calves cramped like there was no tomorrow.  So, for the first part of the week I was out of commission and got absolutely nothing accomplished.  The second half I ended up with a urinary tract infection which was just painful.  I think I ended up drinking my weight in Cranberry juice and it eventually took care of the problem.

All of that led in to the weekend in which my Mother-in-law wanted to take the kids for the weekend allowing my husband and I to celebrate our 14-year wedding anniversary kid-free.  Yippee!  We ended up having a very nice weekend eating out at several of our favorite restaurants.

Sunday, we were brought back to reality and had to pick up our kids.  We spend that evening with my Mother-in-law getting home in time to get the kids in bed by their normal bed times.

That puts us into this week and, for most of the week, we have had really gray weather.  It rained Monday and Tuesday.  Wednesday it was sunny, but Thursday and Friday have been mostly cloudy with the sun peeking out here and there.  I know I shouldn't blame it on the weather, but this week has been a struggle to find any motivation.  I have managed to get the small/doll quilt embroidered but that's about it.

I don't have tennis tomorrow and would really like to get some of my smaller quilts quilted.  I am not sure about the twin-sized quilt and trying to push in through the sewing machine I have been using.  It might work better if I had the right kind of sewing table as well. I guess it's time to do some research and see if there is anything out there that fits the description of what I need or want.

Next week will be better and I hope to be posting some pics of completed quilts!

Until next time

I hate gray days...

Twin-size Blue and Red "Flock of Geese"-- not quilted yet
Blue, Green and Yellow Baby boy Quilt top
Fabric Inspiration -- I think it needs a little more blue
Today is a blah, gray day and I can't seem to find any motivation.  I've read a bit, watched Eat, Pray, Love (which I didn't think I'd like, but I did) and ran to McDonald's for lunch.

Now, I'm sitting here waiting for my kids to get out of school with an extra 45 minutes.  I am really struggling right now, emotionally.  I've got to be PMS'ing.

I'm pissed at myself because I lost 12 lbs at the beginning of the year and I have gained 9 back. Yet, I'm not working out and eating McDonald's... What in the world am I doing?  So, now, I need to add diet and exercise to my ever-growing to do lists.  I think I am going to to the 17 day diet again and start turbo zone again.  And I am definitely going to get the husband on board with the plan.  It's so much easier when we are on the same page.

I have been pretty busy this week and have managed to get six tops finished.  5 of them are backed and waiting to be quilted.  The sixth is waiting on some embroidery and then I will finish that one up.

I have also been a bit more successful with putting aside my "work" when the kids get home.  But, I am thinking that I neex to take one day a week to clean house.  Maybe Monday because that's my laundry day.  We'll see.

I am very excited to almost have this first round of quilts done.  I have plenty more to start designing -- and that's my FAVORITE part :)

So, until the next time...

Me time

This morning started out as a typical Monday morning with kids not wanting to get out of bed, losing shoes and the hubby had to jump-start the minivan before he could drop 2 of the 3 boys who go to Elementary school off at school.

After searching for hours for the afore mentioned lost shoe, I finally gave up and took him to buy a pair of new shoes.  Then, just to torture him, I took himwith me to Starbucks where I purchased a White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha and a piece of Pumpkin bread.  He was smart enough to NOT ask for anything.

After dropping him off at school, I came home and plopped myself in front of my pc.  I played WoW for a couple of hours and then messed around on pinterest for a while.  It felt good to do something relatively mindless :)

When I realized it was already two in the afternoon, I ran to the store for some groceries and finished shopping in time to pick up the boys from school.

We came home, put the groceries away, had snacks, the boys started their homework while I started some laundry and made the new chore chart for the week.

Before I knew it it was already 5 and I needed to start dinner because I knew I would be leaving for tennis clinic at 6:30.  So, now I'm cooking dinner while helping my youngest two make mailboxes for their Valentine's and managing the older boys doing their chores for the day.

Let's just say that by the time my bestie came and picked me up to go to tennis I was ready to get the heck out of Dodge!

Tennis was fun and a great break.  Our Pro, Bill, really worked us hard in the beginning but it was a fun drill.

Got home around 9:00pm and did some more laundry, finished loading the dishwasher, watched the Westminster Dog show and now here I am... Tired again and ready for bed.

So, I'm off to make my to-do list for tomorrow and, hopefully, fall right to sleep.

I'm not really sure if today counts as a "me" day, but I will take what I can get!

busy, busy, busy

Back of Flower blanket is a pink, Minky dot fabric
Almost completed purple and green Dragonfly blanket

Well... It's been a while, but I've been a busy girl this week.

I have finished 2 blankets/quilts, I have 2 tops finished and ready to go, played 2 tennis matches and welll... Didn't do near enough around the house.

I am spending the time the boys are at school sewing, but it is bleeding into the time when they get home.  I really need to stop working when they get home so I can focus on them and the house.

So, that's the goal for this week.  When the kids get home I stop working.

I guess we will see how that goes.  For now, I am going to bed.  I'm beat!

I am adding some pics of my work this week... Let me know what you think

looking forward to the long weekend ahead...

The picture is what I'm started with as far as my office goes.  It's changed a bit now with some cabinets and organizational stuff.  But, it's not even close to being done.

Today was a day filled with errands and laundry.  Yet, I feel like I accomplished nothing.

Went to my God-daughter's State semi-final soccer game (which they won) and by the time we got home and got the kids ready for bed I was ready to throttle my husband.

After scouring the house looking for a missing navy blue soccer sock and not finding it, I ended up going to Wal-mart to look for a new pair.  Drug my bestie along with me so I could vent, which helped and even managed to find some navy blue socks.

Tomorrow I have to get up at 5 to head to a soccer tournament.  Then we have two birthday parties that evening.  Sunday, we have more soccer, a tennis match (I am playing singles) and the Superbowl.

Well, time to get the weekend started and head off to bed.

Let's see if this works...

Yay! An app for my phone that allows me to blog anywhere :)

Today was another day filled with kids and quilting.  No tennis today, but that's ok.  My arm really needed a rest.

Woke up this morning and simply did not want to get moving.  My awesome Hubby took my boys to school and I was able to get a little more sleep.  After a shower, I watched "Mona Lisa's Smile".  Love, love, love the art in that movie. Makes me want to go back to the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, where Van Gogh's "Starry Night" brought me to tears and Monet's "Agapanthus" became one of my favorite Impressionist pieces... And don't get me started on Monet's Water Lily's- they simply took my breath away.

I finally managed to get to the school and drop of field-trip money around noon and then made a quick trip to the grocery store.  Came home, quilted a bit before picking up the boys from school, came home, quilted some more and then some more and then some more.

I finally feel like I made some progress on the red and blue quilt today and am finally sewing together pieces that I will not be cutting to make different pieces.

With my new app I will be able to post picks as well.  So, I am pmanning on posting picks  of my in-progress quilts, as well as the progress of the conversion of my office from little boys outer space bedroom to my crafting room/studio.

Heading to bed now.  I have a parent-teacher conference early in the morning and lots of laundry and sewing to do as well.

So tired...

This week has been busy and tiring.

Tennis is in full swing now, with three teams going simultaneously: one on Wednesday morning, one on Saturday afternoons and the last on Sunday afternoon.  The last two weeks I have been practicing three- four times a week and that's not counting any matches that I may have played.  I think I would be fine if I were eating properly, but I'm not.  My diet has fallen apart and I'm eating too much junk food again.

I'm really struggling to find the balance between tennis, kids and family and quilting full-time.  I am good with quilting while the kids are in school, but it's the stepping away to focus on kids and house when they are home that I can't quite make myself do.  I guess I would much rather be cutting and sewing fabric than cleaning house.

The kids soccer will be starting up soon and we will have four different sets of soccer practices we will have to figure out.  Joy... more to add the growing list of things that need to be done.  :)

I have to head to bed now... I can barely keep my eyes open and I need to get up early and try to get laundry started, grocery shop, quilt and a few other things done tomorrow.

BIIIIGGGG YAAAAAWN!!!

I'm beat.  Today was an action-packed day and it seems like I really didn't get a whole lot done.

My boy, Austen, had two soccer games which hubby took him to.  Austen said he played well.  While he played soccer I had a tennis match.  Won the match, although we tried to give the first set away... I just really had a hard time focusing... PMS sucks!

Came home and went to put some really cool, antique quilt squares up in my office and was surprised to find that Hubs had put up adjustable shelves in my closet... He rocks :)  I started re-organizing and then caught a whiff of my sweaty, smelly self and went and took a shower.  By the time I was finished with that Darren and the kids were back from Austen's game and he side-tracked me for a bit with a short nap.  He slept.  I tossed and turned because my legs were freaking killing me.

When he finally decided to get up I followed suit and went back to work in my office.  Right now, I am in the process of sorting through several bins of kid memorabilia... report cards, awards, drawings, baggies with clippings from first haircuts... I think you get the idea.

I ran across some pics of my father-in-law who passed away 4 years ago and oh my, I miss him  so much.  I showed my youngest a picture of him and he didn't know who he was.  Jackson was not yet two when Dad died.  It breaks my heart that he will never know his Pop-Pop and I think we need to do something to remedy that.  Not sure what yet, but something.

With a little hard work I hope to get a few tops sewn tomorrow.  But, with how I'm feeling now I'm not really sure what tomorrow holds.

Today I woke up exhausted from a week full of tennis, kids, soccer, trying to get my office organized, cutting out quilts and the list seems to go on and on...

My hubby dropped the kiddos off at school and I was able to sleep in for another, very much needed, two hours.

When I woke up at 9:30 I decided to watch the men's semi-final of the Australian open.  It was a good match between two players I really don't care about:  Andy Murray and Novak Djokavic.  Djokavic won in the 5th set.   Being that I really didn't care about the out come of the match, I decided to embellish the purple/green/dragonfly/ patchwork baby blanket with some embroidery.  Just did a simple quilting stitch of a couple of dragonfly's and some flowers on the solid squares.  The really needed something and I think it turned out great.  I need to add some minky to make it just a tad bigger on the sides.

I meant to take pictures of the dragonfly blankie today, but by the time I finished the embroidery it was time to clean the house up for the weekend.  The younger three boys did a really good job of cleaning up knowing that once they finished they would be allowed to play "Skylanders" on the Wii.  When my oldest came home, he however, did not want to get with the program.  He picked fights with each of his brothers and even tried to get mouthy with me... grrrrrrr... the joy of having a 13 year-old son!

Once the hubby came home we were off to my best-friend's son's birthday party.  The kids had way too much fun and got in plenty of trouble, while me and Angie spent a lot of the evening re-organizing most of her mom's fabric.  Her mom has some beautiful quilt tops, blocks and pieces that are all hand-stitched and we aren't exactly sure how old they  really are.  Then there's the regular fabric... she has some really cool stuff.

I ended up back home by 10:30 and spent a couple of hours playing WoW with my hubby, checked Facebook to see how my God-daughter's soccer game went (it mustn't have been good) and now, here I am... blogging before bed.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day:  tennis match in the morning, soccer games in the morning, a child having a sleep-over and somewhere in there I want to get some quilt tops sewn... hmmmm... I guess we will see what happens :)

Friday, January 27, 2012

Let's see... Started the day not wanting to get out of bed after only getting 5 hours of sleep. Managed to get moving and the kiddos off to school with little hassle! Woohoo!

Went with my bestie to go play tennis with a couple of friends at 9. By the time I got home it was close to 1 and I had successfully killed most of my "work" day. By the time I got settled, it was time to pick up the kiddos from school... Then snack... Then homework...

In the mean time,  I was finally was able to finish my first quilt top that I intend on selling. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I'm trying not to be too critical... trying is the operative term.
I will post a picture tomorrow :)

The prospect of starting this quilting/nursery bedding business is daunting.  There is lots and lots of competition and so many choices to make.  My entire family is very supportive and that's great.  But, the normally confident and competent, Jenny, is nervous and scared... I don't want to let them down... I don't want to fail.

I truly hope I can make a go of this because there is nothing better than sewing that top today knowing I am doing something I love that could possibly help my family.
